Established in 2014, the Actor of the Year Award honors emerging talent in Korean independent feature films, selecting one male and one female actor from Korean works in the Vision section. This meaningful occasion sees veteran actors, who have been at the forefront of Korean cinema, personally present the awards to the next generation of rising stars.
Jury member, actor Lee Jung-Eun captivated audiences with her delicate performances in Mr. Sunshine (2018), The Light in Your Eyes (2019), and When the Camellia Blooms (2019). Her exceptional portrayal of Moon-gwang in Parasite (2019) which earned her Best Supporting Actress at the Blue Dragon Awards among other, cements her position as one of Korea’s most respected actors. Building on her prolific career in theater and musicals, she has showcased remarkable versatility across a wide range of genres, including Okja (2017), The Book of Fish (2021), The Day I Died (2020), Juvenile Justice (2022), and My Daughter is a Zombie (2025), an enduring golden era in her career.
Actor Yoo Teo gained international recognition with Summer (2018), invited to the Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival, and has since delivered notable performances in both domestic and international projects, including Vertigo (2019), the drama series Money Game (2020), The School Nurse Files (2020), and The Recruit 2 (2025). Expanding his creative pursuits, he made his directorial debut with Log in Belgium (2021). In Past Lives (2023), his nuanced performance earned him a nomination for Best Leading Actor at the BAFTA Awards 2024, becoming the first Korean actor ever to receive this honor and solidifying his standing as a global star.
The Actor of the Year Award comes with a cash prize of KRW 5 million. Lee Jung-Eun and Yoo Teo will present the awards during the Busan Vision Awards.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival will be held over 10 days from September 17 (Wed) to 26 (Fri) around the Busan Cinema Center.
