The Actor of the Year Award recognizes actors who demonstrate outstanding performances and exceptional potential in films selected for the Vision – Korea section. One male and one female actor are selected, with each recipient receiving a cash prize of KRW 5 million. Each year, one leading male and one leading female actor representing Korean cinema serve on the jury. This year, actors Yoo Yeon Seok and Ko Asung will take part as jurors.
Actor Yoo Yeon Seok made his screen debut as the young Lee Woo-jin in Old Boy (2003) and has since built a wide-ranging career across television, film, theater, and musicals. He demonstrated both his popular appeal and acting ability through the series Reply 1994 (2013), Dr. Romantic (2016), Mr. Sunshine (2018), and Hospital Playlist (2020, 2021). On the big screen, he has showcased his versatility across genres in films including Architecture 101 (2012), Whistleblower (2014), and Steel Rain 2: Summit (2020), building a distinctive filmography. He also received the Top Excellence Award for Actor in a Miniseries at the MBC Drama Awards for When the Phone Rings (2024), winning over audiences both in Korea and abroad.
Actor Ko Asung made a successful screen debut with the box-office hit The Host (2006), earning honors including Best New Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Actress of the Year at the Director’s Cut Awards. Growing from a child actor into an accomplished adult performer, she demonstrated her versatility and acting prowess through films such as Snowpiercer (2013), Office (2015), A Melody to Remember (2016), and A Resistance (2019). From Samjin Company English Class (2020) and Because I Hate Korea (2024)―the opening film of the 28th BIFF―to Time of Cinema (2026) and Pavane (2026), she has continued to draw acclaim from both audiences and critics, establishing herself as one of Korea’s leading actors.
The recipients of the Actor of the Year Award will be announced at the Busan Vision Awards during the 31st BIFF, which will take place from October 6 (Tue) to 15 (Thu). Jury members Yoo Yeon Seok and Ko Asung will attend the ceremony and present the awards to this year’s winners.
