The Festival welcomes Charlotte Gainsbourg with a special screening of Melancholia, personally selected by the actor. Premiered in Competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, Melancholia features Gainsbourg as Claire, who tries to keep everything under control but gradually falls apart as the planet Melancholia approaches Earth.
The screening will be followed by a Special Talk with actor Jung Eun-chae. Gainsbourg is set to share behind-the-scenes stories of Melancholia, reflect on her collaborations with Lars von Trier, and revisit key moments of her prolific career with Busan audiences. As Jung has often expressed her admiration for Gainsbourg’s work, the two actors will meet on stage in Busan, engaging in a candid conversation exploring their shared passion for cinema and acting.
Their history traces back to when Jung starred alongside Jane Birkin in Hong Sangsoo’s Nobody's Daughter Haewon (2013), adding even deeper significance to this upcoming event by connecting two generations of legendary artists.
Alongside the Special Talk, Cine Class ‘Charlotte GAINSBOURG: The Muse of French Chic’ will offer another exclusive session for audiences to explore the actor’s artistic vision and cinematic journey. The event will take place on October 8 (Thu), at 13:30 KST in the Culture Hall (9F) at Shinsegae Centum City. Tickets will open on September 21 (Mon) at 14:00 KST.
The 31st BIFF will officially take place for 10 days, from October 6 (Tue) to 15 (Thu) around the Busan Cinema Center.
