KIM Minha to Host the 31st BIFF Opening Ceremony

Actor KIM Minha Opens the 31st BIFF

Following the successful launch of its Competition last year, BIFF is building on that momentum with Kim Minha, one of Korea’s most exciting rising stars, as the sole host of this year’s opening ceremony.

Since making her debut in 2016, Kim Minha has steadily built a distinctive body of work across film and television. She rose to international prominence with her portrayal of young Sunja in the globally acclaimed Apple TV series Pachinko (2022, 2024), bringing nuance and emotional depth to the character’s journey through a turbulent period in history. The performance earned her the Breakout in TV award at the 2022 Unforgettable Gala, marking an early breakthrough on the international stage.

She has since expanded her range across genres through the series Light Shop (2024), Way Back Love  (2025), and Typhoon Family (2025), as well as the film Hana Korea (2026). Her bold choices and assured performances have earned acclaim at home and abroad. She went on to win Best Actress in the International Competition at the 2025 Seoul International Drama Awards, Best New Actress at the 2025 Blue Dragon Series Awards, and the Actress (Rising Star) award at the 2026 Korea First Brand Awards, firmly establishing herself as one of Korea’s leading actors of a new generation.

BIFF selected Kim Minha in recognition of the depth and emotional precision she brings to every role, as well as her growing presence as a new-generation star. Known for her poised yet spirited presence, she is expected to bring warmth and confidence to the opening ceremony and set the tone for this year’s festival.

The 31st Busan International Film Festival is set to begin with the opening ceremony on Oct 6 (Tue) and proceed for ten days until Oct 15 (Thu) at Busan Cinema Center and throughout Busan.
